move apps windows 10

Move Windows 10 apps to USB thumb drive or SD card and change default app save location

If you have a low storage space on your device, you have a great new feature in Windows 10 November update. For example, if you have a tablet with only 16 GB space, you’re always struggling to install something on the device. So, in the latest Windows 10 update the apps that you download from the store can be moved to another area. This was not available before, so it can help you save more space on your primary C drive. Just check a SD card in the tablet, put in a USB thumb drive and simply go to the settings area.

Change location

There are two settings to check for. The first one in System => Storage.

You have the first little information here that says: “New apps will save to:”.

You can click here and choose another device. So, for example, you can choose here a USB device, and if you apply this, everything that you will download from the Microsoft store will go to this area. So, it won’t take space on your main drive. It works for SD cards and USB thumb drives. That is one thing you can try for.

Move your apps

Another thing is if you already have apps that are installed and you want to move them, go to Apps & features on the same panel.

Here you will see a list of apps. For example, you want to move Mozilla Firefox. Just click on the app icon, and then click on move button. After this you should select a drive to move this app to. That means, that this app will be moved to selected drive.

Note. Some apps don’t have this button. For example you can try to move 3D Builder app. As you can see the Move button is not active. So, some apps will not let you do it. But for most apps that you have downloaded is going to work. You can click the move button, choose you drive or SD card and it’s gonna work perfectly.

So this is going to make more space and we think for a lot of us it will be quite fun to use this option and make sure that we always have enough space in main drive for usage.
