Fix File Associations on Windows 10

In this article we are going to take a look at file association issues in Windows and how we can fix and resolve these issues very quickly. We are working on Windows 10 here, but it doesn’t really matter if you are on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or even on Windows Vista and XP. So let’s take a look what file association error is.

If we go to File Explorer, we have got an error message here. The association file that is corrupted is basically Windows Explorer.Ink.

This could be a registry corruption or even malware operation result. Once you remove malware you can easily fix this issue. Or it can even be just a Windows bug.

Also, it can be an error message that says that it can’t open Task Manager.Ink or anything else. So what to do if you are opening up programs, pictures or movie files and you are getting error messages like this? Some people are going to format their system, but you don’t need to reinstall your system.

As you can see, there is a big array of different file associations here. All these things can be corrupted.

It shows you the symptoms, it shows you the cause and the resolution for this issue. There is a solution, where you need to change something in registry. But you should be careful, because it’s very dangerous to make changes in registry files.

So, let’s go back to File Association Fixer. Open up the application as administrator and you will see a welcome screen. It is strongly suggesting you to create a System Restore Point first.

Now, make sure your system is clean. After that click on Fix Files and you will see a list of associations. In our case we need to fix .Ink file, so select the proper one and then click on Fix Selected.

Once it is done, you can go to File Explorer to make sure it is fixed now.

As you can see, everything has been resolved. That’s all.
