What’s Brett Playing?

This is my first ‘What’s Brett Playing?’ post and I’m hoping for these to be helpful for other gamers to be able to read my likes/dislikes about current games and why. I also would like these posts to be a place for your feedback! Tell me what game your playing, what you like about it, and let me know about anything that I should try and possibly review to let others know about an awesome game! I mainly play MMORPGS, but feel free to post about other genres. With so many gamers out there always looking for something new and exciting to play, why not help each other out a little bit? So expect more of these posts every once in awhile and I’ll keep you up to date on what game/s I’m currently enjoying!

World of Warcraft

What I Like:

  • Loads of new/remade content
  • Rated battlegrounds give another way to obtain the best PVP gear at 85
  • Improved Visuals

What I Don’t Like:

  • Still a very immature community
  • Could do without a lot of the holiday events

I know that World of Warcraft gets some people’s adrenaline going, both in those who hate it, and also those who swear by it. I have tried to always keep the mentality to play what gives me the most enjoyment! I’ve haven’t had as much time over the past two years to be able to get really hardcore into any one game, but I have gotten back into WoW again and have been playing casually since the release of the latest expansion, Cataclysm. From what I have read on the forums, there are some who like the expansion, and some who are quitting the game because of it. The general reason for players disliking the expansion that I grasped was mainly because there wasn’t enough new content for high level players that burn through everything pretty quickly. This has not been a problem for me because I started on a new server with some friends and have been leveling a character up from the beginning again. I have to say that I have been having so much fun this time around!
I first started playing World of Warcraft back in 2004 when it released and have been playing on and off since then. I used to play a lot more and was in a raiding guild and did all that for a year or two back when I didn’t have a job or college classes to finish. I played through the first expansion, The Burning Crusade, and it was a few months after that when I got really tired of the end game grind and quit the game for awhile. I just wasn’t really having fun anymore. I picked it up again when the second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, was released, but still quit again after I played through the content a few times because I didn’t want to get back into the grind of raiding. When the newest expansion, Cataclysm, was announced, I was intrigued with what they were doing in changing the entire existing game world as well as adding new content for high level players. I caved and bought Cataclysm when it came out and started from the beginning to see if I could have fun with WoW again.
I’m happy to say that I had fun and am still having fun playing WoW since the launch of Cataclysm. Although I should let you know that I have been playing very casually. I started a Worgen Rogue on a new server and have been questing, crafting, doing PVP, earning achievements, and doing whatever I want to do when I log on. This is the first time I have played WoW that I am not trying to rush to the end and I am loving it. I’m about to hit level 70 on my rogue and have been leveling mainly from PVP since I hit level 60. I have to say that the work Blizzard has done on remaking and changing the old world of Azeroth is absolutely amazing! I do enjoy the graphical upgrades here and there, but I am mainly talking about the new quests, storylines, skilly system, and other small features. I personally enjoy doing PVP over raiding, and I am excited about doing rated battlegrounds when I get to 85, but I am in no rush.
Now for some things that I don’t care for. These are not really new to the game, but things that have always bothered me about World of Warcraft. The community is definitely not the best around when it comes to MMORPGs. There is always a lot of immature and disgusting things being said in general chat, and due to the cross server PVP and Dungeons, you really can’t get away from it most of the time. However, I have found myself a nice guild that I enjoy but not being 85, I usually end up joining the queues alone. The other thing that I don’t really care for is some of the “cheesy” content such as a lot of the holiday events. I know that the writer’s at Blizzard like to add humor to their game, but it just gets a little annoying when everyone in a main city is going around spraying people with Valentine’s Day perfume. At least these events only last a week or two. So there are a few things that I don’t like too much, but they are very minor and you can avoid them if you want. I usually stay clear of major cities during certain events and simply turn off my general chat.
To sum up, I really love what Blizzard has done with the game, but I think it’s because I am more of a casual player right now. They’ve made the game quicker, easier to grasp for new players, and given players more ways to go about working towards that epic end game loot. I can definitely see why some of the hardcore players are not happy with the changes Blizzard has made, but I couldn’t be more pleased! So if you haven’t played World of Warcraft in awhile, or at all, and want an MMORPG thats fun to play casually and provides a lot of content, maybe you should give WoW a try!
