How to Set Featured Products in WooCommerce



This is a short tutorial on how to set a featured product in WooCommerce and a shortcode you can use. Sometimes when it’s too easy it is hard to find.

In case you run a WordPress website (and there is a lot of us who does) chances are good you are looking for the best ways to monetize it. There are a few solutions available for you, but the greates one among them is WooCommerce.

WooCommerce is a free, shopping cart plugin with open source that works expressly with WordPress websites. From the time it was found in September 2001, the WooCommerce plugin has been downloaded over 16 million times. Nowadays, WooCommerce runs a staggering 37% of all eCommerce websites. We can be sure that people like it.

Step 1

In your WordPress dashboard browse to the products header and then to the products category.

Step 2

On your list of products on the right hand side simply click the star icon to set the product as a featured product. And that’s it! It’s that easy.

Shortcode

Now on a page in WordPress you can insert a shortcode to display the featured products.

[featured_products per_page="4" columns="4" orderby="date" order="desc"]

Here is an example of what the above shortcode looks like.

    • Hey Roger, You can rearrange the order by changing either the orderby=”date” or order=”desc” or order=”asc”.

    I was looking for a column header for “featured” but, of course, it is not there. Only the Star is there as the column header. The screen shots were very helpful. I now have some “featured” products. Thank you!

  • Ok, but how to stop showing featured products on main shop page? I use a static home page and I want to display featured products there by a shortcode (that part is easy), but I don’t want to see them on my shop main page.

    Advice is 4 years old and no longer applicable/ relevant. Theme has been updated but woo commerce has not updated its documentation!
