Fix Critical Error: your Start Menu isn’t working

In this article we will show you how to fix Windows 10 Start Menu critical error. You can encounter the error message that your Start menu is not working. You may also get the error message “Your start menu is damaged” or the error message “Start menu and Cortana aren’t working”. Those error messages are the same error, so we have to fix this problem.

There is a quick way to temporary fix it is by booting into safe mode and then back to your desktop. But you are still going to end up with the same error, because the actual Start menu is corrupted.

So, what we need to do is re-register the Start menu, and we will show you how to do it, guys. It is pretty straightforward.

At first we are going to come down to where the Start button is and right click on it. After that, open up the Task Manager. Once the Task manager is open, we need to up where it says File and then Run new task. Inside here you need to type in Powershell and then you have to put the tick on Create the task with administrative privileges.

Click Ok, and this will open up the PowerShell with administrative privileges. If you see on the top left corner the Administrator Windows PowerShell title, it is Ok. But if you don’t, it won’t work properly, because you do need the administrative privileges.

Now, we need to paste in our big command:

Get-appxpackage -all * shellexperience * -packagetype bundle |% {add-appxpackage -register -disabledevelopmentmode ($ _. Installlocation + “\ appxmetadata \ appxbundlemanifest.xml”)}

This command will help you to re-register the Start menu. It should fix your issue, so what you need to do is just close all the windows and reboot the system.

Now we need to create another account. Go to Start Menu -> Settings -> Accounts and go to the Family & other users.

Here you can Add a family member or you can add Other users. Click on this one and it will pop-up a new window.

Click on I don’t have this person sign-in information, and now you will be able to create your account. In the next section you have to click on Add a user without a Microsoft account. After that, you can just set up your details if you want.

Now, when your account is created, you can change the account type (standard user or administrator).

When you log into that account it will create all the new desktop and new Start Menu and everything for you. Then you can copy all your content across from your old accounts and then delete the other accounts if you wish.
